Am I right in thinking that when I apply for Non-Dom status, I also need to apply for a Social Insurance Number in Cyprus? Standard Admin / Thursday, June 19, 2025 / Categories: Client Enquiries Hello, I hope you're well. I'll be using your services early next year for my move to Cyprus and to also assist with my ongoing accountancy needs. I hold an EU passport, and I plan to apply for Non-Dom status in Cyprus in January next year. At the same time, I intend to keep my UK PAYE job. I just had a few questions: Am I right in thinking that when I apply for Non-Dom status, I also need to apply for a Social Insurance Number in Cyprus? If I do apply for a Social Insurance Number, would that automatically notify my UK employer, or is that process separate? Lastly, is it a necessity to apply for a Social Insurance Number immediately, or can it be delayed for up to a year? Many thanks again, and I look forward to working together. Many thanks, Client Dear Client, Nice to e-meet you and thank you for your interest in our services. Below you will find my answers to your questions in blue colour: Am I right in thinking that when I apply for Non-Dom status, I also need to apply for a Social Insurance Number in Cyprus? Yes, you will have to be an employee or self-employed person as you will need to show business interests in Cyprus. If I do apply for a Social Insurance Number, would that automatically notify my UK employer, or is that process separate? It's a separate process. However, it would be advisable if you inform your UK employer as (as per my understanding) you will be working in both the UK and Cyprus. Hence, your employment and tax status in the UK will definitely be affected (days spent in Cyprus during a calendar year affects your employment and tax status in Cyprus as well). Lastly, is it a necessity to apply for a Social Insurance Number immediately, or can it be delayed for up to a year? You will need to have this when you apply for your non domiciled status. Hence, it depends on you as you will need to decide when you are available to start working in Cyprus. It is important to mention that you will need a residence permit (yellow slip for your case as you are an EU national) as you will be registered with social securities. This can be provided to the social securities after a couple of months from the registration date (you will also have to apply within 3 months of your arrival in Cyprus). This can be discussed at a later stage, once you are ready to proceed. Visit our website to find out more!
