Marketing Department / Friday, January 31, 2025 / Categories: Relocation to Cyprus, Articles Understanding the Various Types of Visas for Cyprus Cyprus has several types of visas. Depending on the purpose and length of your stay, different visas apply. Airport Transit Visa (Category A) [ATV] The Airport Transit Visa (ATV) allows foreign nationals to pass through the international transit area of Cypriot airports without entering the territory of Cyprus. This visa is essential for individuals who have a stop-over or transfer between two stages of an international flight. It’s important to note that the ATV is an exception to the general right to transit without a visa through Cyprus, making it a crucial document for certain travelers. Short-stay Visa (Category C) This visa permits foreign nationals to enter Cyprus for non-immigration purposes, such as tourism, business, or visiting family and friends. The Short-stay Visa allows for a stay of up to 90 days within a six-month period. This visa is ideal for those planning brief visits to Cyprus without any intention of long-term residence. Multiple Entry Visa (Category C) For individuals who frequently visit Cyprus and other EU countries, the Multiple Entry Visa is a practical solution. Valid for up to five years, this visa permits multiple entries into Cyprus. However, it’s important to remember that the duration of each stay should not exceed three months within any half-year period from the date of the first entry. This visa is suitable for business travelers or those with frequent travel needs. Visa Issued at the Border (Category C) In emergency situations, Short-stay and Airport Transit Visas can be granted upon arrival at legal ports of entry in Cyprus. This requires the approval of the Director of the Civil Registry and Migration Department. Such cases are exceptional and typically require urgent and compelling reasons for issuance. Visa Extension (Category C) If you are already in Cyprus on a Category C visa and need to extend your stay, you can apply for an extension at the local Alien and Immigration Unit. Extensions can be granted for up to 90 days from the date of entry within a six-month period. However, if your visa is marked “Final,” you will need prior approval from the Schengen and Consular Affairs Division of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Long-Stay Visa (Category D) The Long-Stay Visa is designed for foreign nationals intending to stay in Cyprus for up to one year. This visa is suitable for those planning to reside in Cyprus for extended periods, whether for work, study, or other long-term purposes. How Can We Help?
