Cyprus Relocation: Places to visit in each city (view from a local)

Places to visit in each city:

Cyprus is considered by many expats from all over the world  to be the most desirable location to live.

In this article I will show you the best key points of every city that you definitely need to visit once you relocate here!

Larnaca:

Did you know that Larnaca is considered to be one of the oldest cities in the world ? The history of the city is dated back in 1,400 BC. There are many museums and castles  to visit from the Neolithic Age to the Roman period.

If you  are more interested in beaches, Larnaca's beaches are packed from about May to October, the beaches of Larnaca are   considered to be more family friendly.

Finikoudes Beach is strung out along the main promenade in the city center area.

Mackenzie Beach (two kilometers south from the center) the place for young people, the area is full of beach bars, restaurants, coffee shops. Everything you need to spend your day.

Pervolia Beach is a beautiful beach in Pervolia village, the last years many turtles have given birth in that beach, and is a protected area, not all the beaches are accessible.

Hala Sultan Tekke and Salt Lake there is a great walkway, around the lake and many flamingos fly here to spend their winter. Hala Sultan is a beautiful Muslim worship place, everyone can visit it.

Larnaca is not very famous for its nightlife, but Savino Rock bar is the first rock bar in Cyprus; many Greek and foreigners Rock legends visited the bar and left their autographs on Savino’s walls.

In general, the city kept its identity and if you take a walk around Larnaca you will notice that many of the buildings are quite old but restored. If you want to visit more traditional places in Larnaca you can visit Lefkara which is 20 minutes away from Larnaca.

From an Economical Perspective, Larnaca is considered to be one of the most affordable cities to live in Cyprus, the rent is lower than Limassol and Nicosia and if you work in the city center everything is walkable and accessible you don’t need to use transportation.

Limassol:

Did you know that Limassol is rated as one of the 100 best cities to live in the world?

Limassol is characterized by many as the small Dubai, due to the great new buildings but also is the first business city in Cyprus.

There are many archeological sites to visit like Kourion (Unesco protected park), Kolossi Castle, Limassol old city etc

Troodos, Cyprus' tallest mountain with the only ski resort in the island is not far away from the city center, if you love going outdoors   there are great places to visit like Platres, Pedoulas, Lofou Kalidonia Falls etc. There are many places to visit if you are a fan of wine tasting where you can spend your day there.

Limassol is also great for their beaches too, even though it is always a bit windy due to the city’s geographical location. Two must visit beaches that are also blue flag’s are Governors beach and Pissouri beach.

Limassol Marina is awarded with the highest industry award for excellence, you can walk around and admire the yachts or you want to sit and enjoy the view.

Limassol is often regarded as the entertainment capital of Cyprus. There is always something to do and there is no chance of you getting bored. Limassol is a great place for a party!

Limassol has an active and vibrant nightlife, there is a huge range to choose from but I would recommend 7 seas and Columbia Beach because both are great places to meet new people and socialise if you are an expat.

The city has a very modern, cosmopolitan feel to it. It is a loved destination by expats from all over the world. There are also a lot of work opportunities but the cost of living is quite expensive. So, if you’re thinking of starting a business or investing in a business, or simply getting a solid paying job, then Limassol  is the city for you.

Paphos:

Paphos  is ranked as the best city to live in Cyprus for seven years in a row. It is a favorite destination among British immigrants and is   home to a large expat community. Paphos is considered to be a family friendly city, and is also the favorite tourist destination for locals   too, especially in the Summer season.

There are a lot of archeological sites to visit here too, tombs of the kings is considered to be one of the most famous tourist attractions,   also there is a Myth that  Aphrodite Goddess borned in Paphos district and there are many tourist attractions regarding that myth.

If you visit Paphos you definitely need to visit the Paphos Zoo that offers exciting opportunities for you to get even closer to some of your favorite animals!!

Blue Lagoon beach of Paphos and part of Akamas area is only accessible with boats and 4 wheel drive cars and offers a magical view, the safest way to visit them is by boat.

Akamas is an incredibly beautiful area where you will see wonderful natural landscapes, such as the gorge of Avakas, the Baths of Adonis and the beach of Lara with all-white sand - where at certain times of the year the turtles hatch their eggs -, its crystal clear waters Blue Lagoon and much more.

The beaches of Paphos are not all accessible and some of them are considered to be really dangerous. But if you visit Paphos you definitely need to witness the Sunset by the beach, which is considered to be the most beautiful sunset in Cyprus.

Famagusta:

The Famagusta area (Protaras, Ayia Napa) is fairly considered to be the king of the beaches in Cyprus with powdery white sand served   by rows of sun loungers beneath shades. There are so many beautiful beaches to choose from: Fig tree bay, Konnos Bay, Makronissos beach, Vathia Gonia Beach and many more. Ayia Napa and Protaras are both very popular for water sports   activities and you can find them on any organised beach.

Ayia Napa it’s long been known as one of the Mediterranean’s liveliest party places, and attracts young people from across   Europe.Clustered around the town’s square are many of Ayia Napa’s 80 bars and 12 nightclubs, most bouncing ’til dawn seven days a week in summer. If you are looking for something more chic you can visit Kaliva on the beach, Isola and Nava Seaside.

Also in Ayia Napa is the first underwater Sculpture museum Musan, the whole project is focusing on nature and how to create a seamless link between the land and the ocean.

Nicosia:

Did you know that Nicosia is the last divided capital of the world? Centrally located on the island, Nicosia serves as the administrative, political, financial and cultural capital of Cyprus.

If you are visiting Nicosia you definitely want to check cultural events and happenings: Theaters, galleries, exhibitions, and a series of   experimental, contemporary events take place throughout the year, making Nicosia the ideal place to live in if you are a culture lover. Also Nicosia has the largest museum of the whole island, the Cyprus museum really worth visiting.

The main pedestrian street and the beating artery of the old town of Nicosia is Ledras Street, where you will find numerous cafes, shops and restaurants inviting you to pop in and browse.
